Update v44 will begin rolling out on Quest headsets over the next several weeks.
Meta today announced the rollout of update v44 for Meta Quest and Meta Quest 2 headsets, offering players a suite of new features designed to improve your in-headset experience. This includes advanced recording settings, new parental supervision tools, and additional security options.
Advanced Video Recording
Recording VR gameplay on Quest just got a whole lot better. V44 introduces several exciting options, including the ability to record in landscape (16:9), increase image stabilization, and boost frame rates and bit rates.
Prior to this update, if you wanted to adjust any of the above settings, you need to use a program like SideQuest. Now, all you need to do is toggle on Advanced Camera Settings in the Experimental Settings menu.
New Security Tools
In addition to video recording, v44 adds several new security and parental supervision tools designed to give you more control over who has access to what content on your headset. Here’s a list of the new options:
- Block Developer Mode on supervised accounts, preventing the ability to sideload unofficial games or apps.
- Lock multiple apps behind a single lock pattern.
- Filter and batch-lock games and apps based on rating categories (example: lock all M-rated games).
Update v44 arrives just several weeks ahead of Meta Connect 2022, a virtual event during which Meta will unveil its next VR headset. Codenamed Project Cambria, the device will feature both mouth and eye-tracking as well as high-resolution color Passthrough.
As was the case with past updates, v44 will roll out gradually on Meta Quest headsets, so don’t freak out if you don’t see the aforementioned options available to you just yet. For more information visit here.
